Porsche 356 T6B RHD 1963 Barnfind

Wednesday 03 January 2024 started off as just a normal day!

running around, wishing everyone a happy new year and paying a few bills, then come 3pm George messaged me a link to an advert for a Porsche 356 1963, all it had was a little write up and the following two photos.

I tried to message the seller but the listing that had only been up 16 minutes had been removed! I was gutted that it had gone so quickly but that’s how it goes.

20 minutes later it came live again, I messaged the seller on both of my FB accounts and George also messaged off his account.

I asked for a phone number on my usual account and on my secondary account I said I could make an immediate transfer.

what seemed like a lifetime went by but in reality it was about 10 minutes I received a reply with a phone number on my usual account.

I immediately called Robert, it was clear after a few seconds that Rob had got some sort of impediment and he explained that he had brain cancer, and that his wife Gilly was annoyed at him for listing the car with such poor photos, I asked for as much information as I could get, so it is a 2 owner car and was taken off the road in 1980,

in 1977 she had had a complete engine rebuild with new pistons bearings etc.

the engine is a Super 90.

Robert bought the car in 2005 to rebuild as a project, however that is when he was crippled with the brain cancer, he had treatment and all seemed to be going well, he began working on another project, but cut himself severely with a grinder but due to the treatment he was on he didn’t realise how bad the injury was so Gilly banned him from any dangerous work until he was clear of the cancer, sadly the cancer came back and has put paid to any kind of work for Rob, bravely he came to the conclusion that the cars must go and to save Gilly being left with the burden he should advertise them and sell them.
Gilly send me the following pictures the next day.

we agreed to have a deal and I immediately sent a substantial deposit, we agreed that I would visit them in Kings Lynn on Saturday morning.

about 20 minutes after Gilly agreeing to remove the car from FB, George was looking on marketplace again and noticed the advert was again live offering the car for sale, i the received a message on my other account where I had said I would make an immediate payment.
the reply came back “ok how would you like to pay and where are you based?”

at this point I had a sick feeling come across me and thought I had been scammed.

I called Gilly to find out what was going on ? She was shocked and said to Rob that he shouldn’t have resisted the advert because the car is now sold!
he hadn’t!
it was hackers! They were messaging everyone and requesting money.
Luckily I made contact by phone.
ALWAYS BE AWARE.

Saturday 06 January 2024 took a long time to get here, but George and I jumped in the truck and set off for Kings Lynn, it’s a horrible drive, I don’t know why but I just hate driving out that way, but have done several times in the last few years.
we pulled into the village (St Peter’s)

we pulled up at The Lodge

we we’re welcomed at the door by Rob and Gilly, truly genuine lovely people, we had Coffee and chatted about the car.

after 20 mins it was time to go into the garage and view the car, Rob showed us round, he’s such a witty man and had George and I in stitches.
